The tour centres around the life of Drummond, a world-famous poet who was coming to Cobalt in 1905 as the town's first doctor and supervisor of his family silver mine.

We will first have a land acknowledgment and pre-history of Cobalt, followed by a general overview of Drummond's background and life. I will talk about the fireplace Drummond Cairn and the plaques erected by two Governors -Generals, and we will visit the Paul Penna Cobalt Library, where an archive room is located. Next will be a walking tour of downtown Cobalt, pointing out the Hubert block where Dr. Hair and Dr. Drummond vaccinated 6000 townspeople in 3 days to avert a smallpox outbreak. Unfortunately, this would lead to complications and his death from a stroke two weeks later at the Prospect Hotel, where our following location will be. Then we will visit the Cobalt Mining Museum, where there is a display case of Drummond artifacts and his medal for being inducted into the Order of the North in 2018. The final downtown visit will be pointing out the Cobalt community hall, originally the largest YMCA north of Toronto. In 1912 Sir Wilfred Laurier came to open the building and afterwards went into the reading room library to unveil an oil painting to Dr. Drummond and donate copies of his five books of poetry. Our final stop is the Dr. Pollard Poetry Park. Dr. Drummond received an honourary induction into the Poetry Hall of Fame by the Spring Pulse Poetry Festival that dedicates itself to preserving his legacy. A plaque has been placed in front of a black spruce tree to his eternal memory.
Along with his family and their silver mine were some of the early pioneers of the Cobalt mining camp. He loved the north and the many characters that were coming to Cobalt from all over the world. He was the town doctor and was writing poetry about his experiences until his untimely death. I want to provide a personalized experience for cultural tourists to learn about Cobalt's history and one of its heroic characters.
Come on the tour and be the first to discover the secret pre-history of Cobalt that has never been written about and much more.
